About 85 per cent of work has been completed on the $200,000 (GH¢770,000) astro turf project being undertaken at Accra Academy.
The facility is the initiative of Black Stars captain, Asamoah Djan, who is also a product of the school.
During a visit to the project site last week, some workers of Wembley Construction Limited, the contractors undertaking the project, were seen spreading gravels on the pitch to make it more compact.
Others were busily constructing the 1,000-seater stand.
Pipes to drain off water from the pitch had already been laid when the Junior Graphic visited the project site.
In addition to the playing pitch, the facility would have an eight-lane tartan track for athletics.
The Foreman at the site, Nii Darkofio Lamptey, who conducted the Junior Graphic round, said the astro turf material that was going to be used for the pitch had already been imported into the country.
According to him, the tartan track would be five metres away from the main astro turf.
He said now that the astro turf material had arrived in the country, “we would start laying it soon”.
The entire facility, he said, was expected to be completed by the end of July.
About two weeks ago, Asamoah Djan was at the site to assess the progress of work.
