Tinubu takes early lead in Nigeria despite Lagos loss

Results from Nigeria's tightly contested presidential election in Nigeria shows that Bola Tinubu has taken an early lead despite Lagos loss.

With official results declared in 10 out of 36 states, the ruling party candidate Bola Tinubu has 47% of the vote so far.

The main opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar has 27%.

Labour's Peter Obi has 22%.

Mr Obi caused an upset by defeating Mr Tinubu in Lagos.

President Muhammadu Buhari is stepping down after two terms.

Mr Abubakar is a former vice-president who has failed in previous presidential bids.

Mr Obi is running for the presidency for the first time.

He has promised to shake up Nigerian politics.

Mr Tinubu is seen as a political godfather. He now wants to be president.
