Kenya: Church disowns pastor over coronavirus defiance

A church in Kenya has disowned one of its branch leaders who issued edicts contravening national directives aimed at containing the coronavirus pandemic, Covid-19.

Pastor Nathan Kirimi of the Jesus Winner Ministry Church, Meru, had on Wednesday issued statements mocking the whole Covid-19 pandemic as a hoax and decided church service must continue, calling his flock not to forsake the assembly of the saints.

However, according to Nation.co.ke, “the head of Jesus Winner Ministry, Bishop Edward Mwai, termed Rev Kirimi's claims unlawful and against the government’s efforts to contain the disease.”

“The management, Board and the Secretary of Jesus Winner Ministry wish to inform Kenyans that the statements made by Rev Nathan Kirimi of Meru are his personal opinions and do not reflect the official position of the church. The board has already instituted remedies and summoned the pastor to ensure that such an occurrence won’t be repeated now or in the future,” a statement issued by the mother church said.
