The 42-year-old staggered to a block of flats seeking help after being stabbed.

Bystanders fought to save his life but the lorry driver later died in hospital.

Mr Kelly's daughter Zoe spoke on Thursday of her heartache following the death of her father.

"I loved my Dad very much, we were very close and he only lived a short walk away from me," she said.

"I last saw him on Tuesday morning when he took me to work.

"I'm heartbroken and to know he's not going to be round the corner anymore is very hard.

"I miss him so much already and it still doesn't feel real, but I hope that wherever he is now he's at peace.

"I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say that he's going to be truly missed."

A post-mortem examination has been carried out on Mr Kelly and the provisional cause of death was multiple stab wounds and blood loss.

Police believe he had been involved in an altercation with about five youths.

A 13-year-old girl from Basildon, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
