Peeping into a cell

Many years back, the Nima Police Station was noted for the unkempt conditions of its cells. Then in the period of one officer with predisposition towards human rights, conditions were improved, leading to the station winning an international award.

At the weekend, I had an opportunity of visiting  a cell of a police station and I was appalled at the condition of the cell. The stench which emanated from the room was so offensive that it defied description. Looking at the floor and some dirty rag of a blanket , I was inclined to vomit. 

I looked to see whether there was a toilet facility, and found none. A close look at the floor sent me reeling and got my mind focused on the Elmina and Cape Coast castles, particularly those rooms of no return and what could be described as decayed human excreta that has become like fossilised particles.
