The World Cup is over but Accra nightlife continues

On Sunday, the world was focussed on the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil.

This significant event that brings people together every four years is one of the most anticipated in Ghana, and the capital, Accra, was crowded with people who were following the final match between Germany and Argentina.

At the Labadi Beach, where Ghanaian youth go to party hard, a corner had been reserved for fervent football fans to watch the match live on television.

The enthusiastic supporters stayed glued to the screen until German forward, Mario Goetze, scored the only goal of the match in the 113th minute.

The beach erupted in joy, with Germany supporters celebrating wildly.

In the city center, most of the bars were quiet - even animated by music- as fans concentrated on the match. It was clear that nobody wanted to miss the ultimate show and fans remained focused until the end of the match, marked by the phenomenal victory of Germany.

It would probably take a long time for the euphoria of the World Cup to die down, especially  with summertime coupled with the progressive tourism in Accra. Therefore, some chilling, hot points are available to the public.

Adulated for its local dishes, tapas and authentic cocktails, the Republic Grill & Bar celebrates the Ghanaian culture through Art, music and gastronomy. It was therefore not surprising to see people from different cultures listening to groove sounds, azonto music, reggae or nu-soul until 2am.

Like the Republic Grill & Bar, Epo’s Bar, Restaurant and Night Club is a favorite of clubbers. This new chilling place is more rustic but equally attractive. It has a bar at the entrance, an outdoor terrace and a dance floor upstairs. And what is amazing is that during the World Cup people were mainly attracted by the big screens but also by the kiosks that offer very cheap snacks. Both are among the top chilling places in the city, and the fun is not going to stop.

Then comes Chase, a 3-in-1  establishment located in the district of Labone that leaves us the choice to have a drink, eat or chill at any time. Created in 2011, Chase offers delicious dishes and impeccable service, but the only downside is the waiting time.

The first time I was there, it took an average of 30 minutes before I got a drink.

The last area to note is Afrikiko, a leisure center located just in front of the Embassy of France and one of the best places to have good time. Mainly because the food is very varied (African specialties, Thai food, grills and Teppanyaki). The activities programme is attractive and diversified (with salsa, kizomba and African nights) and the decor is breathtaking. Afrikiko is certainly the perfect illustration of Accra's nightlife.
