Free SHS saboteurs must be stopped

The claims by government that certain persons are sabotaging the progress of its flagship programme, Free Senior High School (Free SHS) is not a hoax.

Whiles the government has accepted that there were challenges confronting the programme which was rolled out not long ago, the saboteurs and doomsayers are working all out to make the programme to look like total mess.

The latest modus operandi of the saboteurs to send emissaries to take photographs of activities of students in some schools and create the impression that all was not well.

Again, the saboteurs are in league with some educational workers to put out information that are not true about the Free SHS.

What is making the whole sinister agenda murkier is the fact that photographs that are doctored for mischief purposes are put on various social media platforms and news portals that transcend beyond the boundaries of Ghana and is creating an awkward image for the government and the country.

The Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid in a statement, has assured that the government was working to solve problems confronting the Free SHS.

There have been suggestions that government and party communicators have not done well in selling the Free SHS.

It is no secret that the success or failure of the government depended much on how well the Free SHS is handled.

For now, the fight to make to the Free SHS successful is the fight for the Minister of Educational, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, a situation many have described as sad.

Observers believe that there should be collective responsibility on the part of government and party communicators to push the Free SHS further.

It is instructive to know that the Free SHS as a new programme could never go without hitches but how it is handled is very crucial.

But as part of ways to deal with the current hurdles, there should be collaboration between all sectors and ministries of government to sell and make the Free SHS successful.

For now, party and government communicators are dozing and are making the work of the Ministry of Education difficult.
