Happy 150th Birthday, Mfantsipim!
Today, November 14, we do not just mark a date — we celebrate a legacy.
150 years ago, a small beginning was made.
Not with certainty.
Not with abundance.
But with faith, courage, and purpose.
From those early days — seventeen boys and an 18 years old headmaster, James Picot — to the defining vision of John Mensah Sarbah, who named it Mfantsipim— a story was set in motion that time has only strengthened.
Today, we stand as beneficiaries of that story.
As old boys, we carry more than memories of Kwabotwe Hill.
We carry discipline.
Brotherhood.
Identity.
Purpose.
We remember the courage of Rev. W. T. Balmer, who stayed when there was nothing but the Faithful Eight.
We honour the vision of Rev. R. A. Lockhart, whose words have become our reality:
“In a few years, the people of this country will be amazed at the number of its influential citizens who owe allegiance to this school.”
At 150, we are that amazement.
To Every Old Boy—Wherever You Are! Today is a reminder that we did not pass through Mfantsipim. Mfantsipim passed through us.
In how we think.
In how we lead.
In how we serve.
And so, this celebration is not only about the past—it is about responsibility:
To uphold the name.
To live the motto.
To ensure that the next 150 years are even greater than the last.
Let us celebrate with pride.
Let us remember with gratitude.
And let us move forward with purpose. Because Mfantsipim at 150 is not just history—it is a living legacy. And we are its custodians.
Let us fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, and win with them the victor’s crown of gold.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
