Yilo Krobo defers Kloyosikplemi Festival

The Yilo Krobo Traditional Council has deferred the celebration of this year’s annual Kloyosikplemi Festival of the people of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area.

The Kloyosikplemi Festival, which means descending the Krobo Mountain, is annually and usually celebrated in the third week of November each year since 1992. However, this year’s celebration has been deferred till next year.

A press release signed by the Acting President of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Tetteh Odorkor Tuumeh,  explained that there would not be a durbar but all the necessary customary rites would be performed accordingly.

“The Traditional Council wishes to inform all citizens of Yilo, both home and abroad, benefactors, the government, departments, agencies, investors, security services, our close and distant neighbours and other stakeholders that the 2015 annual Kloyosikplemi Festival Celebration in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area has been deferred,” Nene Tuumeh stressed.

He explained that the current unhealthy rivalry raging among the kingmakers over the selection, approval and installation of an acceptable Konor (paramount chief) for the Yilo Stool necessitated the deferment for this year.

He, however, assured the people in the traditional area that the chieftaincy rivalry would soon be over and the kingmakers would make sure that the right paramount chief was chosen and properly enstooled to enable the traditional council to organise a fitting festival next year.

“The Yilo Festival, always celebrated amid peace, pomp and cirumstance, also serves as unifying magnet for our chiefs and the people but we shall hold on for this year alone and continue fully next year, and so the Traditional Council regrets any disappointments and inconveniences,” the press release added.
