They have not “officially” performed on any big stage since hiplife “grand papa” Reggie Rockstone joined the VVIP earlier this year and what a Salla gift it was for residents of Nima and Mamobi last Monday when the group climaxed the Sallafest with a performance in the evening.
With a “home support” of a sort, the group, which is currently getting attention with their latest song, Selfie, thrilled their fans to some of their popular songs which kept alive the Sallafest spirit on the day.
They used the occasion to unveil their latest member of the group, Reggie RockStone, and also released their new song, The Book of Hiplife.
There were not only artistes on the night; there was a chain of performances from musicians such Sarkodie, MzVee, Edem, D Black, M.anifest, Stonebwoy, Guru, EL among others.
Originally created by Vibe FM, an Accra-based radio station in 1998 with support from the Ayawaso Council of Chiefs, Sallafest has grown to become the biggest festival used to climax the celebration of the end of the 30-day fast by Muslims in the country.
The celebration, which regularly draws participation from other countries in the sub-region, has also been ranked as one of the most popular celebrations on the Ghanaian Muslim calendar.
Earlier in the day, there was a procession of youthful chiefs of the various ethnic groups in the country, who dressed in their traditional regalia, rode majestically on horsebacks and in palanquins on the Nima highway.
This year’s event was put together by EXP Ghana, a musical group with sponsorship from Frytol, Indomie, and Rice Master.
