’Twas bad day for Teen Choice awards

Contrary  to the high expectations patrons of this year’s Ghana Teen Choice Awards had anticipated, the show turned out to be a row of disappointments when the second edition of the event came off at the National Theatre last Saturday.

It must have been a bad day not just for the organisers, Silver Network Ltd, but the patrons who had to endure not just a three hour delay for  the show to commence but a series of  poor co-ordination when the show eventually rolled at 6 pm.

At the advertised time of 3: 00 pm, the auditorium was virtually empty and even that, the few patrons were instead asked to wait outside.

As time went by, the young patrons who had come to catch a glimpse of their favourite celebrities- Sarkodie, Bola Ray, Yvonne Nelson, Black Star’s captain, Asamoah Gyan, and TV3’s Nana Aba Anamoah had to cultivate  a “spirit of waiting”.

However, their patience must have been in vain since just a handful of celebrities graced the occasion.

And as if that was not enough, the show was ‘visited’ by Dumsor.  In addition to the Dumsor which lasted for more than 20 minutes and put the audience under more stress from a poorly organised show, patrons also had to endure the amateur emceeing from one CJ who was the host.

Patrons had some respite when ‘teen celebrities’ such as  D Drizz, Kayle from Moni 3, BBRC, Spykids, Dough Money, Sheikh Shosho, Kayce and BoiStif mounted the stage. They managed to put some smiles on some of the faces in the audience. The dance performances were a ‘sight for sore eyes’.

On the awards proper, Bola Ray was awarded the Ultimate Choice Awards. Other winners on the day included child actress, Maame Serwaa, who took home the Social Development Award.

Other award winners include D Drizz; 2015 Choice Music Artiste, Awal of Talented Kidz fame; Male Choice Hottie and GAMBO;Ultimate Choice Teen.

The maiden edition of Ghana Teen Choice Awards was held last year. The awards scheme aims at celebrating young individuals who have excelled in their various fields of endeavours and whose works have been an inspiration to others.

It is also to honour individuals deemed as role models for the youth.
