Fun party with '020 Live' Concert

When Vodafone introduced the 020 Live concert, they indicated that it was to thank their customers for staying with them for one year. Then it happened again the following year and the next.

It has therefore become a part of the entertainment calendar to have 020 Live concert before the end of the year. Thus industry players get agitated when it seemed the telecom brand was not announcing the concert.

Then suddenly an announcement was made two weeks ago that the 020 Live concert was to take place last Saturday and that it will not happen in an enclosed auditorium as the ones before but rather at an open air venue.

The telecom brand said it was creating a party atmosphere at the beach to celebrate with its customers. Also, they won't have any big name artiste from the US or Nigeria on the bill.

The show will parade a collection of Ghanaian artistes to party with the audience with the hot lineup consisting of Fuse ODG, R2Bees, 4x4, Eazzy, Keche and Brian the winner of the last Vodafone Icons competition.

The only two foreign acts were Nigerian TV presenter for Channel O Denrele Edun and South African DJ Divalish who together with DJ Black would rock the party.

When I got to the Labadi Beach Hotel and to the garden close to the beach where the party would take place, members of the production team were working to put the place in shape for the party.

The arrangement thus far looked aesthetic and the various points arranged with Guinness Ghana products along with the two sheep roasting on the grill and an array of buffet containers showed that there was a party about to start.

It took a while for things to be set: the stage, lights, carpets and the entire atmosphere. Though it was announced to start at 7pm, Denrele announced his presence along with his crazy shoes, Valderama-like hair and outrageous clothes at about 10pm.

Keche did a show that was just normal. Brian's performance was nothing to write home about. He has to improve or he won't make it any far in music. DJ Black upped the ante and got the audience dancing to his slick selections.

The female DJ from South Africa took over and did extremely well with her songs and had Denrele dancing his crazy dance moves.

As the party went on, the alcohol began working and the crowd got excited and danced along with the artistes who did well to get them going.

Eazzy had a good performance starting with her new single Scream and ended with Go Go Wind with Jupita on the stage to assist her.
4x4 rocked the party massively and had the crowd going. They started with their first song as DJ Nii Ayi let them through different songs. They paid tribute to Buk Bak before ending.

R2Bees drew the biggest applause when they were introduced. They performed what they could and that included all their hot hits over the years. The crowd loved it and danced to it.

Many said they were there to watch Fuse ODG perform his new song Badder than Bad. When he mounted the stage, he performed his Azonto song, then others before that one.

He ended with the hugely popular Antenna and got the crowd all along. His performance climaxed the performances in the garden of the hotel.

After this, patrons were asked to go to the beach to continue and end it there. I had to leave.

Kudos to Vodafone and the team that put the show together. It was a simple show that had no plan, structure or script but took on its own life as it went on, like a reality show. In the end it was a great party.
