Buffet lunch to celebrate mothers

Last Sunday was Mothers Day and as usual, many events were organised to honour mothers for their contribution to society.

One of such events was the Mothers Day Buffet Lunch hosted at the State Banquet Hall of the State House.

Only mothers received gifts on entry and for the whole duration of the five-hour programme, the virtues of mothers were extolled to the admiration of patrons.

The show started with a live performance from the Immigration Service Band as they gave out lovely tunes which set the right mood for an expected delightful event.

It got more exciting when gospel singer Joyce Blessing hit the stage with veteran musician Jewel Ackah to give the mothers a special Mothers’Day treat with their performance.

A raffle organised as part of the show saw Madam Elizabeth Amegashie from the Volta Region crowned the Mother of the Day. She won a weekend treat in Dubai as well as souvenirs from sponsors.

Other mothers also had various presents including wax prints, jewellery and cooking utensils.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, who was the special guest of the event, entreated mothers to make their health a priority.

Speaking on the theme, “A Healthy Mother, A Healthy Nation,  she said that most mothers in the quest to give the best to their children ignore basic healthy lifestyles, an act that has caused the rise of many illnesses in mothers.

She therefore appealed to the mothers to value their health as they do to their children in order to enjoy the fruits of their labour from their children in future.

The Mothers’ Day Buffet Lunch was sponsored by Samsung, DaViva, Photo Club Imaging, Bel Aqua, Precious Minerals Marketing Company, Star Life Assurance, MVP and Pure Joy.
