Adom Praiz tonight

It has been regarded as the only gospel music concert that provides the platform for local artistes to hit the international limelight and gain more international attention and come tonight at the Perez Dome, Dzorwulu, in Accra, much is expected of No Tribe, Cecilia Marfo, Joe Mettle and Daughters of Glorious Jesus, when they mount the stage for this year’s Adom Praiz.

On the bill are American gospel icon and queen of praise, Cece Winans, and the Grammy Award-winning gospel act, Israel Houghton, also from America.

Highly rated for his fusion style that brings together elements from gospel, jazz and rock,  Houghton, who arrived in the country last night for the concert, is looking forward to impressing music lovers here with his unique approach to telling the word of God through music.

Winans is no new name here, having performed at the National Theatre in 2000. She was at her usual captivating best and it is not surprising that she is coming back to offer more of her engrossing stuff.

But the shine will not only be on  the foreign artistes. The home-based acts are also eager to prove their worth. They have turned out familiar hits here over the years and are sure of getting the audience to sing and dance along to their music.

Their often fast-paced, high tempo rhythms are enough to get any congregation anywhere around the world to dance to the glory of God and No Tribe is expected to give their fans and many gospel music lovers a treat of their many inspiring compositions that have made them household names in the gospel fraternity.

High-profile gospel music events in Accra used to happen mainly at the National Theatre, Accra Sports Stadium or the Banquet Hall.

The Perez Dome, formerly Word Miracle International Chapel, has gradually made a claim as another useful venue. It would be the second time the Airtel Adom Praiz is being held there.

“We have come back to Perez Dome because the event serves as a spiritual experience for patrons, some of whom would best like to have this within a church setting,” said an Adom FM official.

Started in 2009, Adom Praiz, which is in its fifth year, gives the rare opportunity to Ghana-based gospel artistes to rub shoulders with some of the best in the industry around the world.
