DJ Black, Amanda Jissih nominated for Ghana DJ Awards

Organisers of the annual Ghana DJ Awards have unveiled nominees for this year’s event which is scheduled for the Silver Star Towers, Accra, on Saturday, May 6.

The ceremony themed, United By Music, which took place at the MJ Grand Hotel over the weekend, attracted some notable players from the showbiz fraternity including Nacee, Gifty Osei, Beverly Afaglo, DKB, Daddy Bosco, Kwaisey Pee, Dobble, Appietus, Sorakiss and Dadie Opanka.

Some of the popular names that made it to the nominations list are DJ Black, DJ Vyrusky, DJ Mensah, DJ Vision, Ohemaa Woyegye, Doreen Andoh, Amanda Jisseh and Jessica Opare-Saforo.

In all, 33 categories would be awarded and they include Best Reggae/Dancehall DJ of the year, Gospel DJ of the Year, Highlife DJ of the Year, Mobile DJ/Sound System of The Year, Hiplife DJ of the Year and Scratch DJ of the Year.

The others are Mixtape of the Year, Best International Ghanaian DJ of the Year, Artiste of the Year and DJ’s song of the year.

The founder of the awards scheme, Merqury Quaye, said Azigiza Jnr will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the “Disc Jockey family”.

DJ Vision, DJ Black, DJ Mic Smith, DJ Vyrusky, DJ Mensah, DJ Andy Dosty and Mr Kaxtro will battle it out for the ultimate prize of t Best Overall DJ of the Year.

Last year, DJ Black of Joy FM won the Best DJ of the Year awards making him winner four years in a row.

It will also be tough in the Best Female Radio DJ of the Year which has DJ Ohemaa Woyegye (Adom FM), Doreen Andoh (Joy FM), Amanda Jissih (Hitz FM), Justina Ansah (Obouba FM) and Jessica Opare Saforo (Citi FM) as nominees.

The Ghana DJ Awards established in 2012 seeks to celebrate dedicated and hardworking Disc Jockeys who promote the country’s values through music and non-Ghanaian DJs who promote Ghanaian music locally and internationally.

“It has been designed to foster the development of the Ghana music industry by rewarding and celebrating radio, mobile and club Disc Jockeys who have excelled in their fields of endeavour,” Merqury added.
