Amazing Voices Season 2 starts showing Sunday

Pandemic or not, the show must go on and that is why Old Mutual hasn’t relented in bringing Season 2 of its singing competition Amazing Voices to ensure Africa’s amazing voices are heard.

And after a thorough screening process, Amazing Voices Season 2 will start airing across Africa on Dstv from Sunday, April 11, 2021.

The journey started in October last year when singing groups were encouraged to send in online videos and 546 entries came in. After an initial screening process, the talents attended closed auditions before celebrity selectors in their home countries.

The in-country selectors and assistants included Pauline Odors/Reggie Rockstone (Ghana); E-Kelly /Aramide (Nigeria); Sanapei Tande /Ted Josiah (Kenya); Thembalami Tagwire / Misred (Zimbabwe) and Buhlebendalo Mda / Morena Sefatsa (South Africa).

The top 10 groups, two from each country, will now set out for South Africa where they will undergo an intense musical, educational and inspirational boot camp in Sun City.

Over three weeks, while living in a COVID bubble, the groups of four, six and eight members selected from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa will be put through their paces as they prepare for the final phase sing-off.

Their vocal and performance abilities will be perfected by a team of experts while their journey to stardom will be closely monitored by an experienced judging panel with support from show advisor Zwai Bala.

The judges include award winning Ghanaian rapper, composer and songwriter, Trigmatic; Zimbabwe’s Afropop and R&B singer/songwriter, Ammara Brown; Kenya’s Filah Tuju, renowned as a performer, voice coach, writer and producer; South Africa’s Vusi Nova, the Best Afro album and Best Male awards winner and Nigeria’s Evelle, a previous Nigeria Idols winner, singer and collaborator.

With a grand prize of US$100,000 at stake, the contestants are ready to display their passion and determination to win the ultimate.

Commenting on the show, Head of Brand at Old Mutual, Thobile Tshabalala, said: “Music is a universal language and a passion for millions of Africans. As one of Africa's most respected brands, Old Mutual has, for many years, championed positive futures for all our stakeholders.

“One of the sectors benefitting from Old Mutual’s ongoing support is musicians and performers. We encourage them to learn career management skills as well as the personal financial skills they need to survive and succeed in a highly competitive business.

For her part, Head of Marketing, Old Mutual Ghana, Mrs Rita Boateng, said: “Ghanaians should expect an amazing season of awesome performances by all the contestants. Follow every stage of the season on TV and online, and don’t forget to vote for the Ghanaian contestants. This year, we are bringing the cheque home.”

All the drama and the build-up will be shared with audiences on Mzansi Magic and Mzansi Wethu in South Africa, Zambezi Magic in Zimbabwe, Africa Magic in Ghana, Maisha Magic East in Kenya and Africa Magic in Nigeria.
