Who's the real Buda?

Samuel Nana Poku a.k.a. BudaTwo musicians are fighting over the name Buda.  A young underground artiste Samuel Nana Poku aka Buda is claiming he acquired the name eight years ago and Kojo Asiedu, the younger brother of Kwaw Kese who is currently in the Vodafone Icons contest  is also using the same name.

Samuel Nana Poku told Showbiz he had met Kwaw Kese and his brother several times at different studios and they are both well aware he goes by the name Buda so he is surprised that Kojo Asiedu has adopted the name Buda.

He said that by his complaint, many people might think he was  riding on Kwaw Kese’s brother Kojo Asiedu to be popular but that is not the case.

“I might not be a known artiste but those who love hiphop music know who I am. Artistes including Scientific, Gemini, Trigmatic know who Buda is, I am too hot”, Samuel Nana Poku aka Buda said.

Asked whether he would agree to drop the name Buda if it became neccessary, Samuel, who is enjoying a bit of airplay with his latest song My Money claims he adopted the name first so it will be in Kojo Asiedu’s interest to rather change his name.

On the other hand, Kojo Asiedu aka Buda who admitted he had heard of Samuel Nana Poku calling himself Buda, said there must be something wrong with Samuel.

“He should rather change his name”, he said. “How come, I, the more popular should abandon my name because of him?  Where was he when no one knew me? Now that I am beginning to make waves, he wants me to change my name. He can’t be serious”  Kojo Asiedu told Showbiz.

According to Kojo Asiedu he adopted the name when he was young. “I don’t remember the year it was when I adopted that name but all I know is that I have had that name for a very long time ago.

“For now, I am the real Buda and no amount of words or money would make me change the name, I am just one crazy guy who has just come to take over” Kojo Asiedu said.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing Vodafone Icons music reality show, the loud cheers that usually met Buda’s on-stage performances do not seem to translate into public votes to keep him in the competition. For the second time last Thursday, Buda had to be saved by the judges.

In what has been described as a “double shocker”, last week saw the double eviction of two of the more melodious and colourful contestants,  Zakia and Seed.

Before the eviction, the six finalists had to do a duet as well as a solo performance for which the budding singers had to sing their favourite songs.

Buda, Seed and Zakia were in the bottom three and the judges had to make the tough choice of saving only one of the contestants.  Apetius saved Buda, Miss Naa saved Seed, and guest judge, Rudy Kwakye also saved Buda.

Master of Ceremonies, Benny Blanco, who seemed visibly disappointed with the evictions, advised the audience to vote as it is the only way to ensure that one can keep favourites in the competition.

This week, the competition is being  taken  a notch higher. The live eviction show takes place on Friday instead of Thursday and the venue is the street at Osu.

The five finalists know that they have everything to play for  as they get closer to this year’s prize  valued Gh¢250,000.
