Victoria Michaels donates to students
It was excitement and a thing of joy for pupils of Awudome Junior High School in Accra last Friday when model and ambassador for Melcom, Victoria Michaels donated 500 books worth GH¢4,000 to the school.

The donation was part of the model’s African Literacy Development Initiative (ALIDI) established by her foundation, Victoria Michaels Foundation, to lead the campaign for community literacy and technology centres in deprived communities across Africa.
The event coincided with the model’s birthday and as part of her corporate social responsibility, she put smiles on the faces of the students by providing books to improve their literacy levels.
In a brief speech after her donation, Victoria explained the relevance of education and said her foundation is committed to sensitising people on the need for education especially in deprived communities where it is a luxury to be educated.
“The foundation was founded to focus on these three major areas, education, women, girls child development and youth empowerment” she added.
She said that it was quite unfortunate that deprived communities rather lacked the basic facilities to give good education to its people and called on corporate institution to turn their eyes to such needy communities.
Expressing her appreciation for the kind gesture, Mrs Comfort Boateng, Headmistress of Awudome Junior High School, said she was particularly happy because the library has been stocked, one that the school authorities have wished for a long time.
Miss Geniece Benson, a student of the school remarked, “I am so happy because not every school will get this kind of opportunity as we have had. I pray they will come back and fill our shelves again as they promised, I am so happy seeing all these reading books”.
