Tourism Ministry fetes members of creative arts

The President of Ghana,  John Dramani Mahama has again provided a grant of GHC1 Million to be accessed by members of creative arts to expand their industry.

The Minister of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts (MOTCCA) Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu -Adjare disclosed this at a get- together organised by her ministry for members of the creative industry at Jofel Restaurant in Kumasi last week.

In a speech at the event which was graced by some creative industry players such as Agya Koo Nimoh, Bill Asamoah, Vivian Gill, Mercy Asiedu, Akyere  Buruwaa,  Ama Duma, Michael Afranie and  Sam Daaku, the Minister noted that, “ the first GH¢1 Million grant provided by the President last year, was not fully accessed  by members, I therefore urge you to take advantage of the facility to improve upon your work”, she said.

 

She added that the government is collaborating with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to organise a programme where members of the creative arts will be used to unearth and train the youth in the regions who are interested in the industry.

“Government recognises the creative arts as a formidable force thus is willing to give the necessary encouragement and support to the industry to enable it to continue to contribute meaningfully towards the country's economic growth.

“Also, the government is working on the Creative Arts Bill and the Film Law to be passed by Parliament to give members the necessary tonic to operate effectively and efficiently” she added.

Mrs. Ofosu-Agyare who said her ministry will soon provide a secretariat for the creative arts to run their affairs, urged members to compliment each other’s efforts adding, effective coordination would enhance effective development.

Musicians Nana Tufuor and Aboagye Dacosta provided beautiful melodies to entertain patrons of the ceremony. The Amanmereso Kete from the Kumasi Centre of National Culture also performed at the event.
