The Art of Healing premieres October 16
The Art of Healing, a feature documentary inspired by Ghanaian sculptor and educator Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, explores the journey of finding freedom from the descendant pain of slavery.
This unique production, which was filmed entirely in Ghana, will premiere on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the Silverbird Cinema, Accra Mall.

Renowned Ghanaian sculptor, Kwame Akoto-Bamfo in an interview said the documentary was a first step in showcasing to the public what he does as an artist, especially to Ghanaians and people of African descent all over the world.
The celebrated international artist said this latest documentary would continue to heal the wounds and tell the story of the transatlantic slave trade.
"I do believe the documentary would bring something positive and encourage a call to action for understanding each other as Africans. I have done so many works across the world but it feels great to shoot this documentary in Ghana with one of Hollywood's finest Darius Matheson as well as our very own Yaw Pare," he said.
Mr. Amar Deep S. Hari, the Executive Producer of the documentary, said they seek to show the audience a different perspective on the transatlantic slave trade and find a path to heal the painful scars.
He stated that the documentary's ultimate goal was to provide an aesthetic experience and to positively influence Diasporan attitudes, especially with the “Beyond the Return” campaign still in full swing.
Mr. Amar, who also serves as the IPMC's Executive Chairman, stated that the documentary will provide a lesson and realignment of historical moments for audiences.
Ms Darius Matheson; co-director, and a Canadian filmmaker, said the documentary offers a visual pilgrimage for people seeking an emotional and spiritual connection to African history.
She was pleased that they have made a film in Ghana which meets global standards and is looking forward to shooting other international productions here as well.
She said that viewers will understand new ways to engage with African traditions and see events from an African perspective.
Mr Yaw Pare, a co-director of the documentary, mentioned that it was a dream come true for him to direct a documentary that narrates Ghana's history of the slave trade to the rest of the world.
He noted that some interesting findings would be unravelled in this project which would educate the viewer in the backdrop of entertainment.
"The uniqueness of this documentary has to do with a lot of our history that we don't know about.
"There are certain aspects of the slave trade unveiled in this documentary that I highly believe will change the ways we have seen things in the past and hopefully it will help us to learn about our history from a different perspective," he said.
The exclusive world premiere of "The Art of Healing" hosted for invited dignitaries will start at 5:30 pm on Sunday, October 12, 2022, at the Silverbird cinemas Accra Mall and will be preceded by a unique red-carpet experience.
