Spiritual, physical needs go together — Annette-D

Just over a year ago, gospel singer, Annette- D made a note on her smartphone during a call-in session after an interview with a radio station in Accra.

She had mentioned during the chat that  she was into helping young children through her four-year-old Future Leaders Foundation and requests started flooding in from  several child-related outfits for assistance.

An appeal for a classroom block and a place of convenience from a primary school at Sogakope Adidome in the Volta Region caught her attention, prompting a fundraising worship concert, My Worship My Sacrifice, in September last year.

“It is fine to talk about things of the spirit in our songs but physical needs are also important. In fact, they go together. That’s why I have committed nearly all resources that have come my way over the last one year to the Sogakope project,” Annette-D told Showbiz an interview.

Some of the resources she referred to came from shows she played in the Limpopo and Gauteng provinces in South Africa in March this year. Her Searching single featuring Ghanaian dancehall act, Bujwu Stingo released last year also fetched a bit for the educational project.

“My belief is that whoever cheerfully gives for the benefit of children is doing God’s work and being patriotic at the same time. After all, our country’s future is in the hands of the children and we do the whole society a lot of good when we see to their urgent needs now.”

A new project Annette is seeing to right now is the scheduled outdooring of two new singles, Som Nyame and Anwawa Do at 9pm on Adom FM on Sunday, June 5 with Rev. Gabriel Ansah of Nasem University.

Recorded at AB Studios, Community 8 in Tema, the songs are on the Wotee Production label and both feature well-known gospel act, Uncle Ato.

“We hope to raise some cash with the new singles to help us push on with the three-classroom and KVIP project since we want to finish and hand it over for use this year.”

Som Nyame and Anwawa Do will be included in Annette’s fourth album to be released next year as part of events to mark her tenth year in music. Her previous albums are M’ahuoden (2006), Faithfulness (2010) and Eye (2013).

The singer is also looking forward to raising more funds at her next My Worship My Sacrifice concert in August.  According to her, some artistes have already expressed willingness to feature at the show as their expression of commitment to children.

“There is a saying in this part of the world that it takes a whole village to raise a child. Our self-help spirit is already well-known and that’s why I entreat anyone who can contribute to the Sogakope Adidome project to do so. After all, God loves a cheerful giver,” Annette-D said.
