Secular artistes have no chance

If it’s the dream of any secular artiste to have any form of collaboration with gospel star, Royal Chris, sorry you’d be disappointed.

Chris, the 2013 Vodafone Icons Remix Edition winner says it is a no, no and he has no intention of ever going that way.

According to Royal Chris, real name, Christian Owusu Jnr, although he has nothing against them, he believes secualr musicians should stay in their lane while he, a gospel musician, remains in his.

He made this revelation when he spoke with Graphic Showbiz in an interview last Friday.

The Otega singer who wouldn’t feature any secular artiste on either a single or album of his, however, enjoys their works though.  “I love Sarkodie, Wutah Afriyie and some others because they are doing a great job but there is no way I can feature them in my songs. Perhaps, the best I can do is to seek their advice because some of them can write very good gospel songs” he said.

Asked if his colleague gospel artistes who have done collaborations with secular artistes in recent times have ‘sinned’, Royal Chris said they have done nothing wrong just that he will never do it. Period.

Currently, Chris whose Otega on which he featured international gospel artiste, Sonnie Badu, is enjoying airplay says Ghanaians are yet to accept his contemporary gospel music style.

He believes together with his E-volution management team, they will take Ghanaian gospel music to another level.

The graduate of Takoradi Polytechnic who is done with a new single, Jehovah and is ready to release it next month thanked Sonnie Badu for working with him on his first single, Otega.

“Sonnie has been of tremendous help and I am grateful to him. That man is an inspiration. He is a perfectionist. I performed with Sonnie in Kenya last month and the man is just too serious. He does not sleep and wants everything done right,” he added.
