Dubbed, “The First Time Voters Project”, the initiative is to address the decline of electoral participation and encourage first time voters to be actively involved in the process of selecting leaders to be at the helm of affairs of the country.

Sandra, who is also a co-founder of SN Media Learning Tree, a media training facility in Accra,  also uses the opportunity to preach  peace and the need to eschew violence at the upcoming elections.

The nationwide campaign kicked off at the All Nations University College in Koforidua on September 14. Since then, it has made stops at the Koforidua Technical University, the Islamic University College in Accra, and also Jamestown and the Nima market where the fisherfolk and market people respectively were taken through the electoral and voting process, as well as electoral offences.

Sandra said the project seeks to revive the importance of election among the youth. “The importance of voter and civic education during an election year cannot be underestimated.

“This campaign will help first time voters to understand their rights and responsibilities, as well as give them sufficient knowledge about the country’s electoral process and political system.

"We want to inform students beyond just having the right to vote. We want a vibrant Ghana for future generations but that will mean young people understanding the privileges and opportunities available to them," she said.
