Ruki stamps authority with successful ‘Ruki & Friends’ concert

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artiste Ruki has made a bold statement about her staying power in the music industry following the successful staging of the second edition of her annual concert, Ruki & Friends.

The event, which came off at New City Lounge at Spintex Kotobabi in Accra recently, highlighted the artiste’s growing influence and determination to build a lasting brand in Ghana’s competitive music space.

Having launched the maiden edition of the concert on April 26 last year at Rising Phoenix Beach Resort, Ruki’s consistency in organising the event annually has been seen by many industry watchers as a sign of her commitment to strengthening her career and expanding her fanbase.

Over the years, Ruki has remained one of the most consistent female acts within Ghana’s reggae and dancehall fraternity, performing alongside some of the genre’s top male artistes while steadily carving a niche for herself.

Industry observers believe the establishment of her own headline concert elevates her visibility and positions her among the few female reggae and dancehall artistes making significant strides in the industry.

This year’s edition of Ruki & Friends attracted a number of performers, including Ras Kuuku, Iwan, Jahwi, Lyoni Jones, Blakk Mexxiah, Singjay, Jeffrey King, Fyah Armah Kindred, Bobolati, Judah King, Double D, Ras Jimmy Opeteqwei, King Jay Wan, Adebayo Dis, Sugar Lee, Muler Palmer, Ras Kortion, Almighty Afrogee, Orobo Pepper, Asanka and Fatawu Ibrahim.

“This year’s edition of Ruki & Friends exceeded my expectations. Seeing the massive support from fans, colleagues and industry players reminds me that the hard work is paying off. I’m committed to making this concert bigger and better every year while continuing to push reggae and dancehall to greater heights,” Ruki said.

The concert was organised through a collaboration between One Family Yard, Ruki’s record label, and Africa Unite Sound System.
