Pioneer radio evangelist Rev Dr Ababio goes home Aug 4

One of the pioneers of radio evangelism in Ghana, Rev Dr Isaac Ababio, hitherto referred to as the Billy Graham of Ghana who died at age 78 on Friday July 6, will be buried on Saturday August 4, 2018.

The burial and funeral will be held at Trinity United Church, on the premises of Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, Accra.

Rev Dr Isaac Ababio was a regular preacher on radio, especially on GBC radio 2 from 1968 until 1982 when the military government took the programme off air.

He then broadcasted from radio ELWA in Liberia from 1987 to 1990.

When the airwaves was liberalised in Ghana in 1994, his voice was heard regularly especially on Accra based Joy FM at dawn between 1995 and 1999.

Rev Dr Isaac Ababio, started full time ministry in 1966 and spearheaded many evangelistic crusades such as the ‘All for Christ Campaigns and one man itinerant crusades that took him through the length and breadth of Ghana.

He chaired many crusades led by international evangelists and formed many parachurch organisations.

At a point he moved to Papua New Guinea with his family as missionaries.

He founded Hour of Visitation Choir and Evangelistic Association (HOVCEA) which shot Christian music to a high level in Ghana.

With the liberalisation of the airwaves in 1994 and with the coming unto the scene of Joy FM in 1995, Rev Dr Ababio through the support of Mrs Mabel Totobi-Kwakye, returned to the airwaves, broadcasting on Joy FM from 1995 to 1999.

He moved to Channel R and subsequently Spring FM.

He died on Friday July 6, 2018 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital at age 78. He left behind his wife Grace Ababio, six children and many grand children.
