Oswald challenges his creative skills during COVID-19

MANY activities appear to be at a standstill during the COVID-19 pandemic but while many are at a loss on the way forward, some creative persons are using the period to discover their other artistic abilities. One of such persons is Oswald Okaitei.

As a poet and spoken word artist, Oswald had concentrated on his poetry works but his quest to create awareness about the pandemic stirred his fictional abilities too.

He is presently out with three short stories—Lockdown Tales (In The Wicked Heart of a LovYing Lady), a COVID-19 tragi-comedy, The Girl Who Became a Woman in Bed(Once Upon a Coronarised Era), a children’s book and COVID-19 Verses & Tragedy, a collection of 19 poems and a short story.

Apart from the short stories, Oswald has also released two spoken word pieces; The Clarion Call: Woyawoya! which shows on Metro TV and Zylofon TV and his latest, Akpatsa! Stay At Home.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday May 11, Oswald said the novel coronavirus has had negative effects on global activities but has also been a good time for people to discover themselves as they spend more time by themselves.

“I was always busy performing at one place or the other and never had time to discover more about myself but I’m very happy that I have learnt this new side of me.

“Personally, I have decided to concentrate on the positive side of the pandemic and it is yielding positive results,” he stated.

Oswald has proven himself in the field of poetry and spoken word and has shared performance platforms with international spoken word icons such as Muta Baruka, Prof. Atukwei Okai, Prof. Kofi Anyidoho, Rocky Dawuni among others.

He has jointly performed with the Ghana Dance Ensemble, Abibgromma (National Drama Company of Ghana), the National Symphony Orchestra among others.
