Okyeame Kwame to hold AU Arts Festival

Hiplife musician, Okyeame Kwame, has never been one to shy away from challenges and everyday, he takes on new ones through his philanthropic work.

First, he is on a mission to kick Hepatitis B out of Ghana, then he went on a fund raising campaign to enable the paralympic team go to the United States for the Desert Challenge competition.

Now, the Sika hitmaker, who was recently honoured for his charity work by the MTN Foundation, through its Heroes of Change programme, is seeking to raise GH¢1m in one day (yes, you read right) for the John Agyekum Foundation.

Okyeame Kwame is one of a number of ambassadors for the Foundation which hopes to raise about GH¢80 million to fund several projects including a Leadership Centre at the University of Ghana.

One of the ways he intends to achieve what can be said to be an overly ambitious vision, is through a series of art exhibitions to be held across the country.

The first exhibition dubbed, “AU Arts Festival” has been slated for Friday, June 1, to Sunday, June 3, at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra.

The festival, which will have the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Prof. Michael Ocquaye as Guest of Honour, will see about 40 artistes bringing their creativity to bear through a number of portraits and designs which will then be auctioned.

Former President Kufuor is expected to be at the Festival on the opening Day and would autograph every artwork that will be sold.

According to Okyeame Kwame, he is humbled to help the former President whose humility and selflessness he admires.

On whether he could raise the GH¢1m he is looking for, Okyeame Kwame said he was ready to do his part and “I think I will do my part, and will expect everybody I call upon to also respond in like manner.

The Kufuor Foundation is about the development of Ghana and that is something I think we should all support.”

The Rap Dacta also indicated that he plans to hold a concert that will feature three Ghanaian legends; Daddy Lumba (DL), Kojo Antwi and ‘Abrantee’ Amakye Dede as part of the fundraising campaign.
