Oak Plaza celebrates Akosua Adjepong
Oak Plaza Hotel and mobile telecommunication service provider, MTN, have celebrated veteran musician, Akosua Adjepong, as she marks 30 years in the entertainment industry.
Supported mainly by the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), the ‘Dinner with The Stars’ was held in honour of the highlife artiste for her contribution to the music industry for 30 years as she celebrated her 50th birthday last Friday.

It was set out in a music atmosphere controlled by live performances, with instrumental backing from the Bravo Band of the Ghana Immigration Service and the 1250 Band.
As a fitting tribute to the occasion, she staged a nearly two-hour music show that featured a variety of her songs, including Frema and Stupid Owu.
Choreographs
It included long periods of pure dance entertainment with her dancers as they choreographed various dance routines ranging from Zanku to Gwaragwara.
The day climaxed with the moment when she was honoured by Oak Plaza Hotel, MTN, GCGL and a former President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Diana Hopeson, who also happened to celebrate her birthday that same day.
She later expressed her excitement in an interview with Daily Graphic, saying “I am really overwhelmed, I appreciate the love and all, I am just thankful to God for everything”.
The energy she still exuded on stage belied her age and must have transported the audience back into time when she serenaded crowds in her more youthful days with an effortless blend of singing and dancing.
In an answer to how long it took her to rehearse for such an energetic performance, she said “it is just the grace of God; I didn’t really sit to say I was going to use this amount of time or number of days to rehearse, everything just came to me tonight”.
Future plans
Speaking about her plans for the future after 30 years, she said “for the way forward, I have some few singles that I will be dropping so we are still working”.
The event featured fellow highlife musicians Kofi B, who aided the ceremony with a rendition of some of his old songs, and Kofi Nti.
“I must say Akosua or Mummy, as I call her, is one of the few people I admire so much in the industry. She knows how to go about her things and if I want to put it as it is, she is a legend. God bless you and as you clock 30 years in music, may it be the beginning of greater things to come”.
A representative of GCGL, Ms Abigail Hagan, said the investment and collaboration was worth the effort.
“We are delighted to be part of this; Akosua is a great woman who has achieved a lot in the music industry, and it is a pleasure to be part of this day”.
She also talked about the new Graphic News Plus App which will be launched this month.
“This month, we will be launching our news app, where you do not need to wake up at 6 in the morning and go buy newspaper at the news stand. All that you need is to download the app and you will have it all at your finger tips,” she said.
