No Way! — Shatta Wale refuses to yield

Organisers of  last Wednesday’s Loud In GH concert held at the Accra Sports Stadium were served a nightmare when dancehall musician Shatta Wale refused to leave the stage after he had performed his bit following other artistes,  Kaakie, NaturalFace, Jupiter and Stonebwoy.

Close to two hours, Shatta Wale stayed on stage fuelling speculation that he was intentionally doing that to spite fellow dancehall artiste Samini who was billed to perform next.

Yet anytime he asked the audience whether he should leave the stage, they shouted “no,” which egged him on to sing song after song, some of which were repeated more than twice.

When the organisers, YFM, realised that Shatta Wale had stayed too long and was eating into Samini’s time, he was asked to leave the stage but Shatta refused and rather cautioned the organisers not to interfere in his business and allow him to perform.

He even went ahead to tell the audience to hoot at Jay Foley one of the emcees for the night when he tried to stop him.

His attitude compelled the organisers to pull the plug on the public address system before Shatta gave up and left the stage.

When Samini eventually came on stage around 4:10 am, many of the people at the stadium had left for home. In fact, not many artistes would have had the courage to perform but Samini, who was not moved by Shatta’s long stay on stage did what he knows best.

Knowing the mood of the crowd, Samini sang his fast tempo songs which worked for him. In fact, for 30 minutes that Samini was on stage performing, he got everyone dancing and singing along with him.

When Samini left with his Samini song, he received loud applause for his wonderful performance.

Performances from Jupiter, NaturalFace and Stonebwoy were well received. As always, Kaakie has popular songs but her performance was not exciting.

All said, Shatta Wale’s stubborness notwithstanding, the third edition of the Loud In Gh concert which celebrated dancehall music in Ghana was a good show.
