The Ghana Police Service has said it will arraign Harold Norman, husband of actress and fashion personality Rosamond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua, immediately after his discharge from hospital.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said Mr Norman was due to appear before the court today, October 7, 2026, but his lawyer informed the Police that he had been admitted to hospital and was unable to appear.
In a statement issued yesterday, the CID said investigators from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) had visited the hospital to verify the claim and were monitoring the situation.
The Police said Mr Norman would be arraigned immediately upon his discharge from hospital.
The development follows a petition submitted by Nana Akua to the Director-General of the CID on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations also revealed that a case involving the couple had previously been handled by DOVVSU at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026.
Following receipt of the petition, Mr Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations. (Read Tap Nollywood’s talent pool to revive Ghana film — Jackie Appiah)
The Police said a caution statement was subsequently obtained from him and he was granted police enquiry bail on August 29, with two sureties, while investigations continued.
The CID said the statement was issued in response to a viral video alleging domestic abuse involving Nana Akua, which has generated considerable public interest.
In a statement signed by the CID Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Francis Kwesi Yeboah, the Police said it was working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to provide social welfare services for Nana Akua and the children.
“The Criminal Investigation Department is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure the provision of social welfare services for the victim and the children,” the statement said.
The Police urged the public to have confidence in the investigative process and reiterated its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Service were investigated professionally and fairly.
