NAFTI honours film producers

The National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) honoured 30 film producers for their significant contribution to sustaining and maintaining the film industry in Ghana over the years last Friday.

The producers were awarded at the 2015 NAFTI lectures and awards night which was supported by the Ministry of Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

Some of the producers awarded included Alhaji Mumuni, B. M. Imoro, Steve Hackman, and Hammond Mensah, Allen Gyimah, William Akuffo, Socrates Safo, Nana King, Richard Quartey and Roger Quartey,

The annual film lectures was established by NAFTI on the Ghanaian Motion Picture Industry in 2011 and has in the past, celebrated the works of Kwaw Ansah, King Ampaw and last year, Rev. Dr. Chris Hesse was celebrated.

This year, the annual event celebrated the work of the various producers who in the 1980s and 1990s, acting as early adopters of the emerging video technology, contributed their quota to the industry.

The one week event which was crowned with the awards night was themed “the Role of the Producers in Sustaining the Ghana Film/Video Industry.”

In her address, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts,  congratulated the award winners for their hard work and commitment to the industry over the years.

''The creative economy has been utilised as a catalyst for economic development for many nations'' and that Ghana should not been an exception because the industry was a mean to positive changes across social and cultural dimensions,” she stated.

The Rector of the institute, Professor Linus Abraham urged the motion picture industry players to observe high standards and professionalism for the growth of the sector.
