For 14 years, actress and media personality Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku held on to a dream that went beyond the world of entertainment and media, to become a lawyer.
Along the way came motherhood, other interests and the demands of a successful career in broadcasting and acting. But the dream endured, and on Friday, October 9, 2026, she finally took her place among Ghana’s legal practitioners.
Naa Ashorkor was among 1,568 newly qualified lawyers called to the Ghana Bar at a ceremony marking the culmination of their legal education and the beginning of their professional journey.
Sharing a video of herself driving to the enrolment ceremony on Facebook earlier today, she expressed gratitude to God for bringing her dream to fruition.
“This is what the Lord has done. God bless you,” she said.

Her emotional moment was the culmination of a journey that began in 2012 when she enrolled for an LLB at the University of Ghana, graduating in 2015, before proceeding to the Ghana School of Law.
In a post reflecting on her first day at the law school on November 6, 2024, Naa Ashorkor spoke candidly about the anxiety that came with returning to the classroom after a lengthy break.
She explained that she had put her legal ambitions on hold to have children and pursue other interests, but eventually found the courage to return to the path she had started more than a decade earlier.
“I’m anxious, very anxious, because, well, I started this journey 12 years ago in 2012. I took a long break to have children and pursue other interests, and now I’m back,” she wrote.
Despite her fears, she was determined to give the programme her best and complete it within two years.

“But I have every intention to pass all of my exams once, and so I’m going to put in the work and study hard and burn the midnight candle and do everything it takes to finish in two years,” she stated.
At the time, she also expressed the hope of being called to the Bar in 2026, at the age of 38. On Friday, that aspiration became a reality.
A journey of many milestones
Naa Ashorkor’s call to the Bar adds another chapter to an already diverse career spanning media, acting and public relations.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2010 before obtaining her LLB degree from the University of Ghana in 2015. She later earned a master’s degree in Public Relations from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2021.
Her achievement has drawn admiration from friends and colleagues, including CEO of Image Bureau and entertainment industry figure, George Quaye, who described her as family and celebrated the determination that carried her through the 14-year journey.

In an emotional Facebook tribute, Quaye reflected on watching her build a career as an actress, broadcaster and storyteller, saying her latest achievement demonstrated that it was never too late to pursue another dream.
“The world has known you as an actress, a broadcaster, a storyteller and a woman of immense talent. But today, I celebrate something even deeper. I celebrate the woman who dared to dream another dream, who held on to it for 14 years, and who refused to let the demands of an already beautiful and successful life make her abandon it,” he wrote.
Naa Ashorkor was among three media practitioners called to the Bar at Friday’s ceremony. The others were Channel One TV and Citi FM journalist Umaru Sanda Amadu and broadcast journalist Ayisha Ibrahim. (Read 1,568 new lawyers called to the Ghana Bar)
