It’s a dream of every young model to be signed on by international modelling agencies and rub shoulders with super models such as Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Agbani Darego among others and Ghanaian model, Charlotte Derban is no different.
According to Charlotte who is also an actress, her biggest dream in life as an upcoming supermodel is to take her modelling career to an international level and interact with international celebrities.
“My biggest dream in life is to dine with Naomi Campbell, rock a Victoria Beckham dress on the runway as well as do photo shoots and be one of the models in Tyra Banks’ reality show, American Next Top Model”, Charlotte told Showbiz in an interview recently.
“Yes I believe I have what it takes to rock the international runways. You know nothing is impossible,” she added.
Charlotte who was among the the top four finalists of Miss Ghana 2015 said her modelling career started at the age of eight at Tarkoradi when some Catholic missionaries discovered her while hawking for her parents.
“I became the first kid model in Takoradi at the age of eight, I was discovered by some white missionaries from the Catholic Church head office whiles hawking in Takoradi market.
“According to them, I had a hidden beauty that had to be unearthed and so after coming to an agreement with my parents, I signed a three-year contract with them. “I graced the cover of my church magazine and became famous in town. That was how I developed an interest in modelling,” She said.
Charlotte who also won the cooking contest at Miss Ghana 2015, the words of the missionaries and those of her mentor, Tyra Banks continue to inspire her and urge her to achieve more in life.
“I am continuously inspired by the words of the missionaries and I quote, ‘you have a hidden beauty, the street is not meant for you’ and of course Tyra Banks story is another inspiration.”
When asked what about the challenges she goes through as an upcoming model, she said,
“I believe nothing good comes easy, I have a few challenges with especially when I completed my secondary education and decided to fully concentrate on working the runways, some agencies and event organisers demanded I pay them before I will be allowed to do anything but all this helps build one’s experience though.
She also added that “although the Ghanaian modelling industry is not developed as some parts of the world, some agencies are doing their best to encourage upcoming models to reach their full potential and that is very encouraging”.
Charlotte, who has featured in movies like Shattered Romance, She Prayed, The Wife Beautiful Ruins and among others, said she is also a musician and set to release her first video music titled Baby featuring Qweci.
