MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, has announced the launch of two Novelas+ channels in English and Portuguese, dedicated entirely to telenovelas, bringing the globally popular genre to audiences across English and Portuguese-speaking Africa.
The iconic Novelas TV, now rebranded as Novelas+, has already established itself as the number one channel in French-speaking Africa in terms of audience size. Starting July 1, English and Portuguese-speaking viewers will each have their own Novelas+ channel, where they can tune in for dramas from Latin America, the United States, Portugal, and Turkey.
"Our diverse audiences across Africa are united in their love for a juicy telenovela," said Nomsa Philiso, Director of Content for General Entertainment (English and Portuguese-speaking Africa). "We're bringing all the passionate flavours of global dramas to their screens, with new episodes every day. Quality is everything, and we're curating, localising and scheduling only the best for our viewers, including Turkish telenovelas, which have become a global sensation."
Combining exclusive and iconic telenovelas, four series will be broadcast daily from Monday to Friday, with a new episode per TV series each day. With the promise of "Feel the beat of love," DStv and GOtv viewers will be immersed in stories about love, passion, rivalry, and revenge, featuring international stars.
On Novelas+ in English, viewers can look forward to the Latin American sensation Avenida Brasil, starring Débora Falabella and Adriana Esteves as one of the most iconic on-screen villains of our time. The Turkish rom-com Be My Sunshine features breakout talents Ayça Ayşin Turan and Alp Navruz, while Mexico's queen of melodrama, Angelique Boyer, stars in the 2025 remake of the beloved Doménica Montero. Fans of Turkish dramas will also be captivated by Sin and Roses, starring Murat Yıldırım and Cemre Baysel.
On Novelas+ in Portuguese comes a story of legacy, love and betrayal set on a farm in Angola. A Fazenda stars Margarida Corceiro and Evandro Gomes, while Forbidden Love, a popular Turkish drama about a wealthy Istanbul family torn apart by an illicit affair, joins the lineup alongside Portuguese-dubbed editions of Doménica Montero and Sin and Roses.
Novelas+ will be available from July 1 on DStv Access and GOtv Plus in English-speaking African territories, and on DStv Facil and GOtv Plus in Portuguese territories.
