Let‘s not promote imposters -Saminiwaa writes on look-alike craze

The last few weeks has seen heated arguments as well as conversations about look-alike craze where individuals who supposedly look like some music stars are proudly parading themselves.

The craze which started some time last year with Kuami Eugene, KiDi and King Promise look-alike getting some attention has taken on a new level with these play-actors being all over the place.

Interestingly, it appears they are being embraced with some media houses granting them interviews and giving them much exposure much to the chagrin of the likes of Saminiwaa, producer of Joy FM’s drive time.

“You see this look-alike craze we are encouraging eh, it will come back to haunt us all in ways we never imagined. For a people that don't hesitate to retire talents before their time, promoting imposters is the last thing one should even consider.

“It all started out as fun and games but to think that those visible shadow lurkers have the effrontery to even commercialise such an illegality and make that bold call for investors is really nauseating. Why are we disrespecting our artistes like this? Why are we putting in so much energy to belittle their efforts?

“Maybe, I'm crying more than the bereaved cuz for these artistes who also double as brand ambassadors and their management to sit aloof and watch this travesty marinate is actually a pathetic sight. Prolly, they're waiting for the worst to happen before they react instead of nipping this cankerworm in the bud. When exactly are we gonna take this music business thing serious???

“Nigeria has celeb look-alikes but they don't go about misbehaving like this. The airtime mainstream media is wasting on those illegitimate mockery of doppelgangers can be invested in promoting actual talents. Encourage those boys to go find something legit and rewarding to do, this ain't the way to go. To the artistes who are also looking on sheepishly, hoping this will soon blow over, continue tickling yourself in the balls! E go over everybody!(sic)”.
