THIS year’s Fukotsoe Festival of the people of Kpeve in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region has been launched.
Fukotsoe 2026 is on the theme: The Grand Return – Rooted in Heritage, Connected to the Future.
Speaking at the launch on Saturday (August 1), the District Chief Executive (DCE), Courage Kwami Kokoroko said festivals were no longer merely for drumming and dancing, but rather sacred periods for deep reflection and cultural preservation.
“It calls on us to look at Kpeve with fresh eyes, renewed energy, and a shared sense of destiny,” he added.
The DCE pointed out Kpeve was blessed with incredible human capital, and its sons and daughters excelled across the globe.
However, he said, Kpeve could not develop if the skills of its children remained outside.
The festival was therefore a platform to build bridges, heal old wound, and unite for the progress of the area.

Kpeve chief
The Chief of Kpeve, Togbe Aku Dompey XI said the ancestors of the land built Kpeve with courage, unity, wisdom, and hard work, and handed down a rich cultural heritage that continued to distinguish Kpeve among traditional areas in Ghana.
“Today, it is our responsibility to preserve that heritage and pass it on, stronger that we received it,” he said.
Togbe Dompey entreated the youth of Kpeve to learn their history, speak the Ewe language with pride, respect the traditions of the land, while embracing education, technology, and innovation.
The festival will be climaxed with a grand durbar on October 3.
