Kojo Black pushes authentic Highlife with Love

Highlife artiste Kojo Black is making another case for authentic Ghanaian Highlife with his latest single, Love.

Produced by Dikoder Beatz, the new song, released on Saturday, September 19, sees Kojo Black combine the traditional essence of Highlife with contemporary production as he continues to champion the genre and introduce it to a wider audience.

He has built his musical identity around preserving the character of Ghanaian Highlife while exploring ways of presenting it through modern sounds.

In 2023, the artiste, whose real name is Daniel Addo, released Highlife Agogo and Atiaa.

His latest release is another step in his attempt to show that the genre can retain its traditional appeal while remaining relevant to contemporary music audiences.

Kojo Black’s work has also begun attracting recognition within the Ghanaian music industry, with the artiste earning nominations, including Highlife Song of the Year and Highlife Artiste of the Year, at this year’s Ghana Music Awards USA (GMAUSA).

In a chat with Graphic Showbiz, Kojo Black said his latest song was part of his effort to keep authentic Ghanaian Highlife alive while presenting it in a way that appeals to today’s audience.

“My passion for the genre comes from a desire to preserve its identity and demonstrate that Highlife can evolve without losing the elements that make it distinctly Ghanaian,” he said.

Kojo Black, who is inspired by the works of Osibisa, started his commercial music career nine years ago, in 2015, and has since released songs such as Sunshine in Africa, Nipa, Highlife Agogo, Madi Aduro, Happy Day, Agatha and Makola to Kaneshie.

Love is currently available on major digital music streaming platforms.
