The Global Arts and Development Centre (GADEC), creatively led by Abdul Karim Hakib, will take the audience back into time by reconstructing the story in the film  that became a sensation.

‘I Told You So’, a film based on a well-known stage play by Bob Cole, the legendary Ghanaian songwriter, comedian and actor, is a unique look at Ghanaian culture, fashion and social issues in the 1970s. Cole also appears in the film as Kwasi Twii.

It is a lighthearted comedy that explores one man's search for a wife, how women use their wiles to gain husbands and how influential money is in certain situations.

Kobina Jones (J. K. De Heer) is a wealthy businessman arriving in Ghana from Nigeria.  He's so wealthy that he's come to find himself a wife. Upon  arrival, he meets Esuabrobuo (K. Cranston), the local letter writer who has money issues.

Jones seems to have an endless supply of cedi notes on him, which he gladly gives to everyone he comes in contact with. As he is searching for a wife, Esuabrobuo attempts to set him up with his niece, Rosina (Baaba Buckle).

That doesn't sit well with his brother-in-law,  Kwasi Twii,  whose disapproval of the wedding brings him to Odikro (K. M. Hammond) the local chief, who supports the wedding. There is an endless array of funny but edifying scenes.

Abdul Karim Hakib directed the stage adaptation at the Afua Sutherland Drama Studio at the University of Ghana, Legon sometime ago. Now more people will have the chance to see if he can still balance the comedy and social commentary at the heart of the work.

The production is being sponsored by GTP.
