Building a family came at a professional cost for fashion entrepreneur and former model Herty Twens, who put her modelling business on hold for seven years to focus on marriage, motherhood and family life.
After establishing Gold Model Agency & School in 2011, Herty stepped away from the business as her family grew and the demands of motherhood took centre stage. She put her professional ambitions on hold to attend to her family, leaving behind a business she had worked hard to build.
But the break did not extinguish her passion for modelling. She is now returning to the industry, determined to revive the agency and build on the foundation she laid more than a decade ago.
“Life happened, and I think that’s the most honest way to put it. When I started Gold Model Agency in 2011, I was at a different stage of my life. Along the way, marriage, motherhood and family responsibilities came in, and naturally, my priorities began to change. I got to a point where I needed to step back from the business and give attention to that important season of my life,” she told Graphic Showbiz on Sunday November, 1.
She said her time away from the business allowed her to embrace motherhood, grow personally and gain a fresh perspective on life and business. However, her passion for modelling never faded.
“As my family grew, I embraced those responsibilities, and Gold took a back seat for a while. But the passion for what I had built never really left.
“I believe every season of life comes with its own responsibilities and lessons. I have had the opportunity to experience motherhood, grow personally, and gain a different perspective on life and business.
“Now, I feel that it is time to return to the professional space, reconnect with my passion, and continue building on the foundation I started years ago,” she said.
Her return will be marked by the fifth edition of the Golden Hair & Fashion Show, which she says will signal a new chapter for Gold Model Agency.
The event will bring together fashion, hairstyling and modelling, while providing a platform for students of the agency to showcase the skills they have acquired.
“This edition is particularly special because it represents a new chapter for Gold Model Agency. It is not just another fashion show; it is a celebration of our return, our journey and the growth of our new students.
“The audience should expect a beautiful blend of fashion, creativity, hair artistry and professional modelling. More importantly, they will get to see the transformation of our comeback modelling school, young people who came in with dreams and have spent months learning, developing and preparing for this moment.
“We are also bringing together designers, hairstylists, creatives, industry professionals and fashion enthusiasts. I want people to leave the event appreciating the amount of talent and creativity we have in Ghana.
“Above all, this edition is about making a statement that Gold is back, and we are intentional about what comes next,” she said.
Herty expressed hope that the fifth edition Golden Hair & Fashion Show would help raise the profile of Gold Model Agency. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2026, at the Accra City Hotel.
