‘I Like What You Like’ is full of lessons and laughter

MAYBE, one may not be too wrong to call Roverman’s Productions’ second quater and latest play, I Like What You Like, a comedy. The reason?

For the over two hours the play unfolded at the National Theatre, Accra, patrons couldn’t hold back but let it all out—yes, let all the laughter inside them out.

Right from the begining, the first few scenes were enough to tell patrons they were in for some side-splitting experience. Peels of laughter greeted almost every scene of the play written by renowned playwright Uncle Ebo.

I Like What You Like is a test of integrity, faith, love, and honour particularly in marriage. While patrons learn very vital lessons, they also thrilled with funny statements including “get away from me before I give you a middle finger erection”, “my erections are seasonal just like Hearts of Oak”, “Jesus kakra, dollars bebree, 3nuaa ni Nyame sum”, “your wife and I will practice threesome, I mean we will practice Psalm 3”.

The play is about a promising young man, Kwesi Trump, played by Ebenezer Kwabena Yeboah who resigns from his position as a Minister of State in line with his principles against corruption.

The decision evokes a lot of anger from his father-in-law fondly refered to as Togbe who is a senior government official and calls the shots in the ruling government.

He is angry that his daughter, Iris, is married to a man who he claims is irresponsible and lacks the financial strength to take care of his daughter.

Togbe played by Providence Dela Klugan threatens to eject them from their matrimonial home which he owns if Kwesi doesn’t make money just like other men are doing. Kwesi sticks to his guns and resolves not to toe the line of using illegal means to acquire wealth.

But fortune smiles on Kwesi when he receives a message from the US that he’ been named heir to his deceased Auntie Freda’s estate which is worth $350M.

While the news comes as a big relief to Kwesi, his wife on the other hand does not waste time and starts to buy expensive things as well as makes huge demands to match their new status. Togbe starts behaving well and giving Kwesi all the ‘respect’ due a ‘Dollar Millionaire’.

Initially, the inheritance news turns out to be a ‘scam’ which results in Togbe getting very furious for what he believes is a calculated plan by Kwesi to spend his money and save his marriage.

Kwesi isn’t spared the fury of Iris too. What become of the expensive things she orders and how is she going to cope with a big scam staring them in the face?

As the plot thickens, the audience get to know it is not a scam after all. His aunt actually uses his other name Kwesi Lambert for documents of the inheritance so he is the rightful successor and eventually becomes a dollar millionaire.

There will be an encore of I Like What You Like on Saturday, July 15 at 4:00pm and 8:00pm respectively and on Sunday at 1:00pm, 4:00pm and 8:00pm.
