I am a living testimony — Ramzy

Having spent about six years of his life in prison, musician, Wilhelm ‘Ramzy’ Amui has found no better way to express his gratitude to God for his early release than through a song titled Asomdwee (Peace).

In a chat with Showbiz recently, Ramzy said Asomdwee, which will be released next Tuesday, is inspired by a message sent to him when he was in prison, when all hope was gone.

The message was: “In the fullest part of your darkness, I am your light and in the midst of your trouble, I am there to console you.

I am the peace within your moment of pain.”

“The message came to me at a time I was contemplating suicide.

I was left with four months to complete my term when I went for an appeal and guess what? I was slapped with another 20 years in addition to the almost 10 years I had served so you can imagine how I felt.

“All hope was lost and it was at that time the message came to me.

That is what kept me going till the President granted me a Pardon. Through it all, I learnt to trust in Jesus.

I had told my mum to stop visiting me because I was going to kill myself but my trust in God was what kept me going”, he said.

Ramzy was part of about 1,000 prisoners who were granted Presidential Pardon by former President John Mahama on December 31, 2016.

He entreated everyone in the situation he went through not to give up, “believe that there is a God who can save and use me as a testimony, there is a lot of advice in Asomdwee so everyone should download and listen,” he said.

“The song is so touching, it has given me that liberation and strengthened me. There is a God who is able to save and make everything beautiful in His time. He will bring me out and place me among kings and rulers. Just like Joseph, I did not have to serve all my term,” he said.

Asomdwee, which is a worship song praises God for His goodness. Rendered in Twi, some of the lyrics go like, He is my light in my darkness, when in trouble, He gives me hope. There is peace in my life because He has given me peace.

He also used the opportunity to advise the youth to be very careful because anyone can easily end up in jail. “I will urge the youth to be vigilant and careful about who they call friends because it can land them into trouble.”

Asomdwee, produced by Kaywa and is being promoted by The Royalty Record Label headed by Isaac Twum-Ampofo (Ohemaa Mercy’s husband) who is his manager.
