Talented highlife musician Kuami Eugene says it cannot that he influenced or forced veteran Amakye Dede to crown him as ‘Future of Highlife’.

Abrantie Amakye Dede recently described the youngster as the future of the popular Ghanaian music genre, and jointly performed with him at the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

Many highlife music lovers have approved of the acclamation, while others have wondered if Eugene had any hand in Amakye's declaration.

According to the Rockstar, Amakye Dede has monitored his performance in and out side of the country and can testified his good works.

"We are talking about Amakye Dede. He is not a small boy for me to deceive with toffee to crown me highlife music king. Amakye Dede has been around to see the little things that I have done in highlife music. I have mentioned highlife music in most of my songs and my music is actually getting out there. I have been to many countries to perform my songs and really doing highlife music.  I have performed with him on his show in London and he saw how the reaction was," he said this in an interview on Adom FM.

The 'Angela' hit maker noted that the veteran further advised him  to work hard in order to succeed in the music industry.

"Whatever he said that night was from his heart.Even after my performance with him on VGMA, he told me to take care of the crown because it is dear to his heart. So the next day, when I heard that I forced him to crown me, I was like, how powerful am I to force Amekye Dede." he said.

Background

Amakye Dede at the 20th edition of the VGMA crowned Kuami Eugene as the "Future of Highlife" and said he was confident that he would hold the fort of highlife music.

However, some industry players have registered their displeasure about his statement; saying there were other highlife artistes who equally deserved the honour.

Some suggested that Bisa Kdei or K.K. Fosu, among other renowned acts who tow the highlife genre were supposed to be honoured other than Kuami Eugene, who emerged just two years ago.

In subsequent reports, the manager of Amakye Dede, Mr Akwesi Aboagye came out to reveal that his artiste was forced to crown Kuami Eugene.
