'Ghana must go' and Ghana has gone ahead of Nigeria – Omotola

There have been varied reactions to a post on social media by Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, in which she praised Ghana for making developmental strides ahead of Nigeria.

In a post on Instagram after visiting Ghana last week for AFRIMA, Omotola suggested that Ghana was developing faster than Nigeria.

Making a historical reference to the 1983 'Ghana must go' episode, where thousands of Ghanaians were deported from Nigeria because of economic hardships in Nigeria, Omotola said Ghana has indeed taken advantage of that move and really moved ahead of Nigeria.

Okay... So Economists , come and analyze oh... this Amongst other things was quite alarming on my trip to Ghana. Hmm... I changed N10,000 (Ten thousand Naira) and it was only worth ..... C120 ( One hundred and twenty cedis) Not C1,200 and certainly not 12,000 cedis but a mere 120 cedis!!! 1 dollar in ghana is 4.8 cedis ! #Ghanamustgo and they have Gone, are they moving faster than us? I don’t want to talk about the airport , Tubaba has already talked about that but I forgot both my phones while signing the immigration cards, about 10mins later, it was announced to pick them up at guest services! Ha! #GiantofAfrica ? #Getbusy #Getbusy #Getbusy 😓😓😓. Abi? I’m I missing something?

On social media, many have supported her comment, whilst some disagree.

The ace Nollywood actress made the observation during her trip to Ghana for the 2018 Edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Saturday, November 24.

She noted that Ghana has developed and left her country [Nigeria] behind by stating that the Terminal 3 at the Kotoka International Airport and the cedi’s strength against the Nigerian naira was a clear indication that Ghana is doing better than Nigeria.

Now that we are all discussing this... let’s take it further... I love the interest this post is garnering... time to discuss deeper... So with all , it’s now clear Ghana re-denominated their currency... this was proposed sometime ago in Nigeria ... Our Naira is still stronger than the ghana cedis or worst case, almost same ( hmm,Google strongest currencies In Africa it says otherwise !) ... We also agree many African countries are now developing faster than we are, making bold attempts to level up on internationally accepted standards of living. The key word is they are “Developing faster” . I choose to use ghana and not other developed countries like china yes china( who’s building ghost Cities - pls google ) or countries now adding artificial intelligence to school curriculum... 2019 is around the corner , we need to bring our minds up to speed with what enlightened countries of our stature and many even smaller and less endowed ones are now doing... we as young people need to rebrand our minds before we might see a rebranding of Nigeria. There are many tried candidates people who have shown excellence in prior responsibilities and who will be in touch with the century we're competing in. Donald duke, obi ekwesilil, Fela Durotoye ... I’ve often heard young people ask... they go fit win so? I choose to encourage them , worst case scenario ! Yes let me #wastemyvote . Will be discussing Economics and our Economy on #Osexyfriday on Twitter (@realomosexy) 30th of Nov. 5pm #getbusy join the discuss... #stillthegiant -#Wakethegiant
