Fashion was very much on the agenda when the Ghana Culture Day, organised by the Ghana Culture Forum, was celebrated recently at the National Theatre.
Aware that intelligent discourse always stimulates improved standards, Fashion Forum Ghana (FFG), founded by designer and public relations practitioner, Makeba Boateng, held the first of its quarterly fashion talks series as part of the Ghana Culture Day event.
The talk brought together a panel of knowledgeable fashion industry and legal brains to educate and inform an eager audience on the topic: “The Legal Usage of the name ‘Ghana’ in Fashion Identities and Branding.”
The panelists were Mr Tetteh Adzedu, Chairman of the Ghana Association of Fashion Designers and Chief Executive Officer at the Adzedu of Shapes Fashion Institute; Mrs Sarah Norkor Anku, a State Attorney at the Registrar General’s Office and Mrs Yvonne Ntiamoah, Head of the Fashion Design Department at the Radford University College. Ms Hillary Sarah Andoh was moderator for the discussion.
Always a practical-oriented fellow with a passion for Afro-centric designs, Mr Adzedu advised both newcomers and industry professional to constantly upgrade their knowledge on legal matters relating to fashion to enable them remain relevant in the business.
The man, who has shown his work across African countries such as Angola, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Senegal, South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania and Swaziland, urged designers to strive and achieve the type of quality that attracts clients from other places apart from Ghana.
Mrs Anku also advised those in the fashion industry to educate themselves on the importance of being registered with the Registrar’s Office in order to have protection of their intellectual property.
Officials of the Fashion Forum Ghana said they were happy with how well the talk event went and stated that the second series to be organised by the forum has been slated for June on the topic: Globalising Ghanaian Fashion.
