Ewurama Badu, others honoured

Action Senior High & Technical School is 15 years old and as part of activities  to mark its birthday,  the  school hosted a Speech and Prize-Giving Day where some musicians who have set themselves apart with their acts were celebrated last Saturday.

The musicians who were honoured at the ceremony held on the school’s premises at Madina, Accra, were Ewurama Badu, George Jahraa, Samuel Owusu, K.K Kabobo, O.J, Amandzeba, C.K Mann, A.B Crentsil and Akosua Adjapong.

In a special citation, the school extolled their astute qualities as musicians and how their songs had helped shape society as well as educated people on some social vices.

Highlife legend, A.B Crentsil, gave a short performance of his popular Anyen after receiving his citation. The song, which was popular in the ’90s, entreats Africans to be innovative and not use their “witchcraft” for destruction. He was, therefore, recognised for using his music to champion a “more organised” Africa.

Celebrated Ewurama Badu’s Obaatan Refre Ne Mma, which honours the virtues of a caring mother was good enough to get her on the celebrated musicians list.

Although K.K Kabobo performed a few lines of his Onyame Ehunu Wo song, it was just enough to get some members of the audience on the dance floor. The song shames people who indulge in negative activities in the society.

George Jahraa and Samuel Owusu were also honoured for their songs, Driver Banza and Ye Kaa Wo Ntie No respectively while OJ and Amandzeba had a citation each for their Anka Meresan Nekye and Baako Ye songs. Akosua Adjapong was also acknowledged for her Me YeƐ Obaa song.

The occasion also saw students, who had excelled in the various subjects as well as Teaching and Non –Teaching staff, receive awards for their selfless contribution to the growth of the school which was established in 1993.

Speaking at the event after the presentation, Mr Jerry Agyapong, Acting Headmaster of the school, slammed the practice where people were honoured after their deaths.

He said it was important to celebrate personalities for their hard work while they are alive to make them feel appreciated.

The Founder/ President of the Action Progressive Institute, Rev. Dr James Amanquah, was all praise for the dedication of the staff who have helped in building the success story of Action Senior High School and Technical Institute as one of the best private schools in the country.

“The passing rate of the institute has eventually made it a household name for many students in the country and beyond. Presently, Action has students from Nigeria, Benin, Rwanda, Equitorial Guinea and Burundi,” he stated.

A Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Alex Kyeremeh, who was the Special Guest of Honour, affirmed the government’s support for private sector education in his speech. “Of course, there is no way that your name can be deleted from the success calendar of education”

A cadet parade, a play and dance choreography by the students brought the curtains down on this year’s anniversary which had in attendance old students, parents and government officials.
