Emelia Arthur whips up Made-In-Ghana campaign

Gospel singer and Made-in-Ghana Campaign Ambassador, Ms Emelia Arthur, and her management team have started work on a project to produce a 1,000-page directory of made-in-Ghana products and services.

The completion and outdooring of the directory by December, is how Ms Arthur intends to round off an eventful year of campaigning for better patronage of made-in-Ghana stuff.

It was in mid-January this year that the Ministry of Trade and Industry officially made her a Made-in-Ghana Campaign Ambassador.

Her role, as indicated by the Ministry, included serving as a role model for the campaign; creating awareness on made- in-Ghana goods and services on her various platforms and participating in events related to the Made- in-Ghana campaign.

She has since been on the campaign trail to arouse public interest in our own produce. She recorded a song, ‘Nyame Enndi Ye Abro’ (God Won’t Forsake Us) to help bolster her crusade.

Sung in Fante, Twi, Ewe and Ga, the song states that God has not forsaken us so we must lift up this country by relying on our own efforts. The video of the song was later launched in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Soon after the video launch, Ms Arthur appealed to traders in rice across the country to always include at least 10 per cent of local produce in their stock and encourage consumers to patronise the local brands.

The appeal came after a visit to Wienco Ghana Limited, producers of the Aduanehene and Copa rice brands from its farm at Sogakope in the South Tongu District.

In the run-up to this year’s Eid-ul Fitr, Ms Arthur, with support from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and some benevolent organisations, donated items, including locally produced rice, soft drinks and frozen chicken to the Chief Imam.

“When we patronise made-in-Ghana products, we create jobs for our youth and help boost our economy,” she said at the presentation.

The outdooring of the 1,000-page directory is expected to incorporate performances by Ms Arthur and other artistes who promote Ghanaian values.
