Though widely known for performing with Rocky Dawuni, Kojo Antwi, Samini, Atongo Zimba, Barima Sidney, Bessa Simons and others, singer Elivava’s home folks at New Baika in the Buem District of the Volta Region often only get to see her on television.
After a visit home last January to curtail a long absence, she decided to put together a charity concert to help alleviate poverty in the New Baika area and the show has been slated for Monday, March 28.
Apart from Elivava, the other acts New Baika residents will see at the Homecoming Charity Concert which takes off at 4.00pm are the Calabash Band, Della Hayes, Sherifa Gunu, Andy Tay, Lily M and Togbe Ghana.
“New Baika had a thriving market and traders came from from Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Togo and other places to do business. The market is now almost non-existent and the folks there are not earning enough money to cater for their children.
“It is a rice and cocoa growing area but the bad road network and high cost of transportation are hindrances to the people’s effort to generate wealth.
“Some corporate outfits and individuals have donated in cash and kind to help the effort to revive economic activities but we can do with more assistance,” Elivava said.
The singer who has an album, I Live 4Ever to her credit, stated that she was happy at the warm response from colleague musicians to help entertain and bring some cheer to the people of New Baika this Easter.
