Edem is luckiest GMB contestant

This year’s edition of Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, has had its shocking moments and perhaps the biggest one was last Sunday, when the Volta Region’s representative, Edem, survived eviction and seems to have one foot into the final.

Edem can best be described as the luckiest contestant for this season. First, there was some controversy stoked when it was alleged that she was ‘smuggled’ into the competition as she did not go through the audition process.

In her stay in the pageant, her performances have been average or at other times have been poor, yet she has always managed to survive while stronger contestants have been sent home.

Last Sunday, she put up another poor showing in a ‘Good Samaritan’ skit and even flubbed her lines.

In fact, long serving judge, Linda Ampah even refused to comment on her performance and for some in the audience and even those at home, she was the mostly likely to go home when for the second time in two weeks, she was in the bottom two together with Adom from the Brong Ahafo Region.

However, to the shock of many, Judge Oscar Provencal decided to evict Adom, who posed as a front desk officer at a hotel offering good customer service even though he had said Edem’s performance was not good proving that the judges’ 60 percent voting power was indeed a differentiator.

Eviction drama aside, the girls gave good accounts of themselves. Baaba representing the Central Region was a hospitable housewife, Zeinab (Northern Region) acted as a banking consultant who addressed poor customer service at some banks while Nana from the Western Region opened us up to the choices we have as Ghanaians in our quest to be hospitable.

Her free-style presentation earned her the Most Eloquent and Star Performer awards.

Serwaa from the Eastern Region was a Tourism Minister for the night and tasked Ghanaians to deal with sanitation as it is key to improving tourism and hospitality sectors in Ghana.

Although she was evicted, Adom did not go home empty handed and received a prize for being the Most Disciplined contestant. On Sunday, November 5, the five contestants will battle for a place in the final four and we are sure to get some surprises.
