Don’t focus only on Accra artistes — Maccasio

Tamale-based Hiplife artiste, Maccasio, has criticised the media’s over concentration on the entertainment scene in Accra and artistes based in the capital to the detriment of those in the other regions.

For the Dagomba Girl hitmaker, the media’s major focus on Accra and to some extent Kumasi is to blame for the lack of development of the entertainment industry nationwide.

In an interview with Showbiz, Maccasio said “The media should pay attention to things that are happening outside Accra.

They should look at Takoradi, Sunyani, Tamale, Techiman among others. These places have lots of talented people who are practically unknown.

“Whenever I have a show in Tamale you should see the quality of the artistes on the bill.

You will be surprised at the songs and the calibre of performances they deliver.

I saw the nominations for Fan Army of the Year for the 3Music Awards and I was surprised my fan base 69 Fans was on the list and I can say I have the craziest and most loyal fan base of any artiste in the country,” he said.

According to Maccasio, an artiste based outside Accra does not need to come to Accra to promote his songs before they get airplay.

“I have to admit that some of the blogs and websites are helping us out immensely.

There are times I do not even know how they get hold of my songs but they promote them all the same. However, there is more the mainstream media can do to help artistes from all the regions in the country.

“Sometimes it is not only about the song because we all know that constant airplay on radio and television can make someone like your song even though they did not initially and that is how you create fans,” he said.

Maccasio also used the opportunity to address his supposed feud with another popular Tamale-based artiste, Fancy Gadam.

According to him, any talk of a feud has been manufactured by their fans and hinted they could even collaborate on a project.

“In music, there is always the possibility of something like that happening between the two of us.

This is business and if we are both to gain from collaborating then why not? We are both working hard to be heard,” he said.
