David Oscar champions African unity with new single

Reggae musician and comedian, David Oscar is deepening his commitment to Ghana's reggae scene with the release of his latest single, Africa As One, while preparing a series of live reggae performances aimed at celebrating the genre's enduring legacy.

Released on June 27, Africa As One is the latest addition to David Oscar's growing reggae collection.

It will also be included in a live recording at his Reggae Spot Festival performances, where he celebrates his own music and iconic reggae classics.

Aside Africa As One, there will also be classic reggae selections inspired by legends such as Bob Marley and Joseph Hill of the iconic reggae group Culture.

For David Oscar, the project goes beyond entertainment. It reflects his long-standing mission to preserve and promote authentic roots reggae while inspiring a new generation of music lovers.

He mentioned that the same passion drove his annual Reggae Spot Festival, an event he established to celebrate reggae music and its cultural significance in Koforidua.

Through the festival, he has consistently created a platform for lovers of the genre to experience live performances, revisit reggae classics and appreciate Ghana's contribution to reggae music.

“Africa As One is more than just a song; it's a reminder that reggae has always been a voice for unity, justice and hope. Through this song, the live sessions and the Reggae Spot Festival, I want to keep authentic roots reggae alive while inspiring young Africans to embrace our shared identity and cultural heritage,” he told Graphic Showbiz on Monday.

While his socially conscious lyrics addressing socio-economic issues have earned him admiration, they have also attracted criticism from those who disagree with his views.

"I started comedy but I realised that music has always been part of me and I don't regret making that detour," he said.

He added that the Reggae Spot Festival remains one of his proudest initiatives because it allows him to connect with fans while celebrating reggae music.
